What does "attribution" mean under CC BY?
Attribution means giving proper credit to the original creator of the work.
Attribution format:
"Track Title"
Pamela Yuen https://linktr.ee/pamelayuen
Licensed under CC BY 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Indicate if any changes were made
Can I use your music for free in videos on my monetized YouTube channel?
Yes, as long as you credit me. For YouTube, this means including a credit in the video description (at a minimum, mentioning my name). Failure to include the credit may result in an automated copyright claim. However, once the credit is added, the claim can be resolved.
Can I use your music for high-budget projects like feature films?
Yes, as long as you credit me.
Can I use your music in commercial projects?
Yes, as long as you credit me.
Can I modify your music under CC BY?
Yes, you can modify, remix, or adapt the music, but you must still provide proper attribution and indicate that changes were made. For example:
Based on "[Track Title]" by Pamela Yuen, modified for [Project Title]. Licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Can I use your music for free if I can’t provide credit?
Unfortunately, no. Attribution is a requirement under the CC BY license. However, I offer affordable licensing options that do not require attribution. You can request a license here.
What happens if I don’t provide attribution?
Failure to provide attribution violates the CC BY license, which automatically revokes your right to use the music. To rectify this, you can:
1) Update your project with proper attribution.
2) Purchase a No-Attribution License if attribution is not feasible.
Are there restrictions on how I can use CC-BY licensed music?
You can use the music in most projects, including YouTube videos, films, games, podcasts, and ads. However, you cannot:
- Resell in isolation – any resale must have the music synchronised with other media. Sound effects, or recorded vocals or dialogue layered over the track do not count as synchronisation.
- Redistribute through music distribution services (e.g. DistroKid, CDBaby), or submit to streaming services (e.g. Spotify) or online stores (e.g. iTunes).
- Claim ownership of the track or register it with a copyright collection society (e.g. ASCAP, BMI, Content ID).
Can I release an album to streaming platforms under my own artist name or label using your music?
No, this is not permitted. Streaming platforms do not provide a straightforward way to credit me appropriately, making it impossible to comply with the CC BY license. Additionally, I do not grant licenses for this purpose.
Can I claim your music as my own work?
No, claiming ownership of the music is a direct violation of the CC BY license and may lead to legal consequences.
What should I do if I see someone using your music without following the license terms?
If you notice a violation of the license terms, please notify me with details of the project.
